Ticket office opens at last
A NEW ticket office and waiting room opened at Rotherham railway station yesterday after a much-delayed £8.5m redevelopment – but the work has not been finished altogether.
The new facilities include an entrance, lifts and stairs.
A spokesman for South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive said: “We apologise that the works at Rotherham Central Station have taken longer than expected.
“We are confident that customers will be impressed with the significant improvements in the station’s facilities, which we hope will contribute to making the town a much more vibrant, successful and healthy place for people to live, work, visit and invest in.”
Contractors will remain at the site until Easter to complete works to a platform, rebuild the car park and carry out landscaping.
An official opening ceremony will be held in the summer.
