Time running out to see Hirst work at city exhibition

TIME is running out for art lovers wanting to see works by Damien Hirst at Leeds Art Gallery.

The exhibition showcasing Hirst’s work for the first time ever in any depth in the city where he grew up has so far attracted over 130,000 people since opening in July, making it one of the most popular exhibitions held at the gallery on The Headrow.

The free exhibition of works by the world-famous artist is organised by Leeds Council as part of the national programme of ARTIST ROOMS on tour with the Art Fund with sponsorship from Leeds-based legal firm Walker Morris. People have until Sunday 30 October to see the works.

From 1:30pm-5pm on October 30 as part of the build-up to the ‘Día de los Muertos’, the Mexican Day of the Dead festival, the gallery will host a range of family activities in keeping with Hirst’s fascination with the subject.

The first major survey of the work of Damien Hirst will go on display at Tate Modern in 2012, part of the London Festival 2012. The curator of that exhibition, Ann Gallagher, will be in Leeds from 2pm on October 30 to give an insight into the artist’s work as the Leeds exhibition draws to a close.
