Tinker and Drive lead pack in film gong race

COLD War spy thriller Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and the crime drama Drive lead the nominations for this year’s London Film Critics’ Circle awards.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy’s Gary Oldman is up for best actor and British actor, while the film is also nominated for best film, British film, screenwriter, and technical achievement.

Drive, about a Hollywood stunt performer who ends up on a heist gone wrong, also has six nominations, including best film, and best director for film-maker Nicolas Winding Refn.

Its star, Ryan Gosling, is up for best actor, while the movie also has nods in the supporting actor (Albert Brooks), British actress (Carey Mulligan) and technical achievement categories. Nominees for best actress include Meryl Streep for her performance as Lady Thatcher in The Iron Lady, which has two nominations.

Michelle Williams is also up for best actress for her role as Marilyn Monroe in My Week With Marilyn and Tilda Swinton is in the running for her performance in We Need To Talk About Kevin.

Along with Oldman and Gosling, best actor nominees are George Clooney for The Descendants, French star Jean Dujardin for the silent film The Artist and Michael Fassbender for Shame.

We Need To Talk About Kevin and A Separation, have five nominations each, while The Artist and Shame have four.
