Tinker Tailor and Drive lead gong race

TINKER Tailor Soldier Spy and the crime drama Drive lead the nominations for tonight’s London Film Critics’ Circle awards.

Gary Oldman – who plays George Smiley in the adaptation of John Le Carre’s celebrated spy novel – is up for best actor and British actor, while the film is also nominated for best film, British film, screenwriter and technical achievement.

Drive, about a Hollywood stunt performer who ends up on a heist gone wrong, also has six nominations, including best film and best director for Nicolas Winding Refn. Its star, Ryan Gosling, is up for best actor, while the movie also has nods in the supporting actor (Albert Brooks), British actress (Carey Mulligan) and technical achievement categories.

Golden Globe-winning star Meryl Streep is up for yet another prize for her performance as Lady Thatcher in The Iron Lady as she is in contention for the best actress title.
