The tiny dog who proves bigger isn't always better

THIS little chihuahua may be the smallest in the world.

Ten-week-old Lulu is only four inches long, and owner Jean Tindall says that in over 50 years of breeding and caring for the breed, this is the smallest specimen she has seen.

She suspected that Lulu was not growing as fast as her sister and two brothers – but soon realised that she was not actually growing at all.

Jean, 76, from Bradford, said yesterday: "I've seen a lot of chihuahuas but never one as small as Lulu. Even among other tiny dogs she really stands out because she is so tiny.

"You can't believe she's out of the same litter because the rest are twice as big as her."

Daughter Tracey Tindall, 40, who helps breed the dogs and also breeds larger dogs such as Akitas, said: "I've spoken to a few people and no-one has ever seen anything like Lulu. It's amazing just how small she is."

"There were five in Lulu's litter in total and we immediately noticed two of them were very tiny. One of the tiny ones died, but Lulu started growing then just stopped at four weeks. She hasn't grown an inch since.

"Lulu is quite a mischievous little thing, she seems to come alive at night when everyone else is asleep. She's perfectly healthy and very lively, just small."
