Tips on road safety for pensioners

PENSIONERS living close to the A631 Bawtry Road in Rotherham, one of the town's busiest roads, are being targeted by a new road safety campaign.

The Look Lively campaign, which is specifically focusing on the section of the dual carriageway between Whiston Crossroads and the Lumley Arms at Maltby, will be launched at Wickersley Community Centre at 2.15pm on Tuesday, January 25.

A spokesman for Rotherham Council said that several serious accidents have taken place on the road in the last five years, many involving elderly people, and those crossing the road "might need to reconsider their methods."

Nick Wilson from Rotherham Council's road safety team said: "We hope that any senior residents who live in the area will attend. We have been in contact with various local groups and we hope that residents will take advantage of the 30-minute simple course, which may prevent future accidents or casualties.

"It will explain the reasoning behind the new pedestrian crossings and remind older residents of the need to consider the levels of their hearing, eyesight and mobility."
