Toad Georgie may be world’s oldest

TO the untrained eye Georgie the toad, may look like any other common critter lurking in the back garden in Hull where she Sal Hobbs, community scientist at York University lives.

But scientists from York, who uncovered Georgie in the Greatfield area of the city during a community wildlife survey, believe she may in fact be the oldest common toad in the world. Ms Hobbs said: “Georgie was given as a gift to a Hull resident to help protect her tomato plants against pests 38 years ago, so remarkably she must be at least 40 now. Toads are normally thought to live up to around 12 in the wild, Georgie might well be a world record-breaker.”
