Todmorden sealed off in 'Afghanistan' bomb scare

Police were called to the scene at 8am along with bomb disposal officers.

Both Pickthall Terrace and Halifax Road, one of the main thoroughfares in Todmorden, were closed for several hours as the experts conducted their investigations.

The package was later deemed safe and people were allowed to return to their homes. A police spokesman said that rumours the alert had been triggered by a soldier who had brought back dangerous materials from Afghanistan were incorrect.
