Tommy Steele, whose wife Ann Donoghue was raised in Harehills in Leeds, was given a prestigious plaque at the venue after he headlined more performances than any other star at London’s most famous theatre.

Now the popular entertainer, who has notched up more than 20 hit singles, will take the title role in the critically-acclaimed musical based on Charles Dickens’ popular classic A Christmas Carol.

Steele took to the stage this week at Leeds Grand Theatre ahead of his first performance next month.

Ian Sime, general manager at Leeds Grand Theatre, said: “Scrooge The Musical is the perfect family treat.
