Tompkinson turns detective for new TV role

ACTOR Stephen Tompkinson is to take on a "darker role" as police detective Alan Banks in a new ITV thriller based on the stories of crime writer Peter Robinson.

The two-part pilot episode of DCI Banks: Aftermath will go into production in Yorkshire at the end of April and air on ITV1.

The announcement comes as ITV1's long-running detective show A Touch of Frost is due to screen its final episode on Easter Monday.

The show's executive producer Francis Hopkinson said: "The Inspector Banks Mysteries are incredibly popular with crime thriller readers across the globe."
