Tool collection on show

AFTER years of being kept under lock and key, one man's lifetime collection of tools has now found a permanent home and will be on show to the public full-time.

The new Hawley Gallery, set to open at Sheffield's Kelham Island Museum tomorrow will showcase the collection of tool retailer Ken Hawley, who has been amassing the tools since the 1950s.

John Hamshere, chief executive of Sheffield Industrial Museums Trust, said: "This is the first time that the entire Hawley Collection has had a gallery dedicated to showing the full scope of the items.

"The gallery will feature a programme of temporary exhibitions, talks and family activities that will enable the wider community to admire and learn more about the items in the collection and it will add an interesting dimension to the new Kelham Island Museum."
