Top bowler to open new centre

Yorkshire bowler and former England cricketer Ryan Sidebottom is due to officially open Calderdale College’s new Inspire Centre today.

The centre is part of an £8m redevelopment which includes science labs, seven classrooms, a hi-tech learning resource centre, sports hall, dance studio, all-weather pitch and fitness suite.

Halifax RLFC will use the Inspire Centre as a training base and, as an educational partner of Calderdale College, players can access fitness testing by sports students using the sports science lab. The pitch and sports hall will be available for use by community organisations in the evenings, weekends and during the school holidays.

The centre was self-financed by Calderdale College with a grant of nearly £1m from the Skills Funding Agency and the building work on the centre was completed in twelve months.
