Top honour for Yorkshire brass band

Musicians from Yorkshire have been crowned winners of the championship section of this year's National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain.

Brighouse and Rastrick Band scooped the title at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Saturday.

In securing their victory the band crushed West Yorkshire rivals the Black Dyke Band's hopes of a hat-trick. The Bradford-based band had held the title since 2008.

Two other West Yorkshire-based bands reached the final, Rothwell Temperance Band, which took fourth place, and Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band.
