Top performer in takeover

THE HIGHEST performing academy in Yorkshire is hoping to repeat its success after taking over the running of another school in the same city.

Dixons was a former city technology college and transferred to academy status in 2005. The school, near Bradford city centre, which was backed by the electrical giant Dixons, started from scratch almost 20 years ago. It's GCSE results have been consistently higher than neighbouring schools and it is rated as outstanding by Ofsted.

Last year 90 per cent of its pupils achieved five A* to C GCSE grades, including English and maths. In September last year, it opened a second school in Bradford with Dixons Allerton Academy replacing Rhodesway School.
