Built in 1788, Richmond’s Georgian Theatre Royal is the UK’s oldest working theatre in its original form and last year launched a £122,500 appeal to secure much-needed financial support.

Among those backing the initiative are Geraldine McEwan, Edward Fox and Dame Eileen Atkins, who will be appearing at the theatre for three Sunday afternoon conversations with stage director Richard Digby Day.

On Sunday, McEwan, known for her role as Miss Marple, will be sharing stories and experiences of her extensive career, while on April 13 Edward Fox, whose great-grandfather Samson Fox was instrumental in the building of Harrogate’s Royal Hall, will be at the theatre. Finally, Atkins, known for her role in BBC’s Cranford, will round off the mini season on April 20.

Warnock Kerr, chief executive of the theatre, said: “We are extremely grateful to these actors and Richard Digby Day for supporting the theatre in this way.”

Since the launch of the appeal in May, the theatre has raised over £50,000. For further information visit: www.georgiantheatreroyal.co.uk.
