Top wedding venue seeking investors

A LUXURY hotel set in a beautiful Yorkshire estate is being promoted as a wedding venue to attract some of the world's most famous celebrities.

The bridal suite in the five star Raithwaite Hall Country Retreat in North Yorkshire is being marketed to investors for 950,000 and is expected to attract high profile guests and stage shoots for celebrity magazines such as Hello! and OK.

The sprawling estate at Sandsend, near Whitby, covers more than 80 acres and includes fishing lakes, waterfalls and botanical gardens.

The company behind the 30m hotel development, the York-based Skelwith Group, is selling all 45 rooms to investors with a guaranteed yield of eight per cent for the first 10 years and then a 50 per cent share of the room income.

The Skelwith Group's managing director, Paul Ellis, said: "Raithwaite Hall will be an international destination and attract visitors from around the globe."

The site made headlines in 1991 when shipping tycoon William Headlam died and bequeathed the bulk of his 7m fortune, including the estate, to his Swiss nurse Trudi Tanner – making her one of the richest women in Britain overnight.

Miss Tanner, now in her 70s, gave up running the estate off Sandsend Road when she retired to a house in the nearby village.
