Top work by architects in city shortlisted for design awards

UNIVERSITY buildings, a new school and a modern extension to a Victorian villa are among the projects to be shortlisted for this year’s Sheffield Design Awards.

Launched in 2008, the awards are held every two years and are open to any development within the city’s boundary.

This year’s shortlisted projects are: The Sharrow Point development of apartments and townhouses by Project Orange; Sheffield University’s Arthur Willis Environmental Centre by Bond Bryan Architects; The Crucible Workshops by Elden Mills and Co; Western Bank Library by Avanti Architects; Newfield School by HLM Architects; The Workshop in Nether Edge by DRDH Architects; Sheffield Hallam University’s Furnival Building by Bond Bryan Architects and the new Sheffield Accommodation for Alcohol Rehabilitation (SAFAR) residential building, by BDP Architects.

The competition is being run in partnership with Sheffield Civic Trust and the Royal Institute of British Architects Yorkshire.

Simon Gedye from Sheffield Civic Trust said: “This is only the second time of we have run the competition and the response from architects in the city has been fantastic.”

The winners will be announced on February 16.
