Tory MP ‘disappointed’ at Government’s rail U-turn

The Business Secretary is “disappointed” with the Government’s decision to halt electrification work on two major rail routes.

Sajid Javid told MPs he has yet to discuss the delay with Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin but is planning to raise it with his Cabinet colleague.

Mr McLoughlin informed the Commons last week that electrification of the Midland Mainline and the TransPennine route between Leeds and Manchester is being paused.

The Tory frontbencher replied: “I was disappointed with that recent news because it’s important we continue to invest in infrastructure, not least to increase productivity and therefore jobs growth.”
