Tourism boost

YORKSHIRE’s heritage, historic buildings and beautiful countryside already ensure tourism is a major success story in the region.

Today the Yorkshire Post reports on two developments which should help this to continue.

For the first time, visitors to the Harewood Estate will be able to see its Grade I listed 14th century castle which has been renovated and secured to allow guided walks to tour the ruins.

The Harewood House Trust hope to give visitors an insight into what life was like in the 1300s in what was one of the country’s first country houses.

Meanwhile, there are ambitious plans for another country house on the North Yorkshire coastline which has just been bought by a Hollywood executive.

After spending many years touring the world’s finest hotels, former Warner Bros vice president Gerald Aburrow said he enjoyed his stay at the Wrea Head Hotel, near Scarborough, so much he had to buy it.

Securing and promoting the history of both of these buildings should help to ensure that Yorkshire’s tourism has a bright future.
