Tourism stars given chance to shine

Guesthouses, pubs and restaurants are being urged to enter tourism awards aimed at honouring the “very best and brightest” businesses in Hull and East Yorkshire.

Forms are now available in tourist information centres and online for nominations for the Remarkable East Yorkshire Tourism Awards.

The awards, now in their third year, are open to businesses who work within the region and contribute to the visitor economy, including accommodation providers, conference venues and new businesses.

Previous winners include Kilham Hall Country House, at Driffield, which went on to win the B&B/Guesthouse award in the White Rose Awards.

Another REYTA winner, Larkin with Toads, also scooped an award after raising £50,000 for good causes during the course of a year commemorating the life of poet Philip Larkin, who died 25 years ago.

They have now gone on to the forthcoming Enjoy England awards.

Visit Hull and East Yorkshire’s chief executive Janet Reuben, said: “These awards are a chance for this region’s tourism industry to celebrate and recognise the great people and organisations that make a superb contribution to Hull and East Yorkshire tourism.

“Awards have enormous potential to raise awareness of business successes and winners of the first two REYTAs reported an increase in profile and customers due to their awards achievement.”

There are 12 awards for businesses to nominate their staff, their organisation or a colleague for as well as an additional award chosen by the VHEY board. New categories include ′Remarkable Fayre′ for the best food and drink producers, deli′s and farm shops and Remarkable Day Out, recognising the favourite attraction in the region.

Nominations close on January 12.
