Tourists offered brochure temptation

TOURISM chiefs are hoping to entice more people to come to East Yorkshire after the publication of this year’s visitor and mini-guides.

Visit Hull and East Yorkshire has produced 260,000 brochures, including main guides featuring more than 250 accommodation providers, from intimate five-star B&Bs to city centre hotels, as well as what to see and do to get the most out of the region.

A series of pocket-sized booklets, called Welcome to a whole lot more going on, have also been published, with individual guides available for Bridlington, Beverley, Hull and the region as a whole.

Thousands are being sent out to potential visitors across the UK and online, and European language versions are being prepared for distribution on the continent.

The guides include features on things to see and do, such as cycling in the Wolds, theatre visits, events and “must-visit” attractions.

A national marketing campaign is under way to promote the region and accompany the launch of the guides.

Janet Reuben, chief executive of VHEY, said the brochures had been well received when they were launched to 50,000 potential visitors at a UK travel show.

She said: “We have had a very exciting response to the new guides. In previous years they helped to generate significant income for the visitor economy and we hope that this year they will be even more successful.

“The guides look superb and really capture the imagination of the reader. We hope that they inspire lots of new and old visitors alike to come to Hull and East Yorkshire in 2011.”

Tourism is becoming increasingly important to the region’s economy and is worth about £615m a year.

The industry supports more than 15,000 full-time, seasonal and part-time jobs.

There are more than 10 million day visitors to East Yorkshire annually.
