Town busy turning thoughts to war

ORGANISERS of Northallerton’s Wartime Weekend later this month expect commmunity spirits to soar as the sirens are sounded.

The popular event will feature 1940s shop window displays, wartime menus and music, as well as period clothing sales.

Scyzory Hair Design will be creating 1940s styles for customers – with a modern twist if required – and pencilling the seamed stockings while Barkers of Northallerton will be dressing windows to promote the event and staff at Sainsbury’s will be dressing in period style.

Cobwebs Antiques will be buying, selling and hiring 1940s clothing and memorabilia while the Tithe Bar provides a wartime menu.

On Sunday, June 19, the venue will be celebrating VE day with an indoor street party including a buffet, beetle drive, period games and prizes.

Wartime Weekend organiser, Robin Carr said: “It is really great that we are getting the support of these local businesses. It is support like this that will help the event grow and be a success.

“We have already been approached by one local business who wants to be a corporate sponsor for next year’s event.
