Town estate to get new £3m school

BUILDING work starts this month on a new £3m primary school to serve the new Lakeside and Brat Hill Farm housing developments in Scunthorpe.

North Lincolnshire Council is working in partnership with the Diocese of Lincoln Board of Education to provide the new school.

It has been named St Peter and St Paul Church of England Primary School and will open in September 2012.

A ceremony to mark the start of construction will take place at the development at 9.30am tomorrow.

The Bishop of Grimsby, the Rt Revd David Rossdale, and Coun Rob Waltham, Cabinet member for adult and children’s Services at North Lincolnshire Council, will cut the first turf.

The school will cater for 90 children at first and up to 210 once the housing development is complete.

Governors have appointed head teacher Katie McGuire to lead the school.

Once completed St Peter and St Paul will join the family of 141 church schools in the Lincoln Diocese.

About 1,000 houses are being built and will be within walking distance of the school.
