Town litter louts hit by £12,500 court bill

Magistrates in Doncaster issued fines and court charges totalling more than £12,500 last month to 41 people prosecuted for littering – three times the number of people prosecuted the previous January.

Councillor Cynthia Ransome said: “Some people may look at these fines as a money-making exercise.

“We spend millions keeping the borough clean and tidy and the amount that we receive in fines is small in comparison to the cost of cleaning up after those who litter our borough.
