Town’s new bobby on the tweet

NORTH Yorkshire Police’s first special constable has signed up to Twitter.

Volunteer officer Jonathon Kenworthy, who helps police Selby’s neighbourhoods, has signed up to Twitter to describe his work as a special constable and keep people up to date with what’s happening on his beat.

The special constable, whose day job is an events business manager, is the latest in a long line of North Yorkshire Police staff to start posting updates on Twitter, with Harrogate Pc Ed Rogerson, who currently has more than 3,300 followers, one of the most popular police tweeters in the country.

Chief Inspector Richard Anderson, safer neighbourhood commander for the Selby District, said: “Twitter provides a quick and clear way to communicate with members of the public and keep them informed about what’s going on in the community.

“This is also an opportunity to raise awareness of the valuable contribution which the special constabulary make.

“Jonathon’s enthusiasm for his work is endless and we hope his tweets not only keep the community informed, but inspire others to consider volunteering for the police.”
