Toys, textiles, dresses and teddy bears all set for sale

A GREEN 1950s dress, a vintage Hermes scarf and a 1930s Mickey Mouse toy are just some of the items going under the hammer in the Yorkshire Dales very soon.

Tennants Auction House in Leyburn is holding a special auction featuring vintage costume, textiles, samplers, dolls and teddy bears next Friday.

Fashion lovers will be able to bid on vintage clothing from the Victorian era through to the 1970s and 1980s, as well as on a collection of shoes and handbags.

There will also be the chance to take home dolls houses, which date back as far as 1900, and a selection of sewing and needlework accessories.

Sarah White, valuer and head of the textile department at Tennants, said: “It is one of our very popular quarterly sales and it is set to be very well attended by private buyers, dealers and collectors alike.

“A lot of the clothes in the sale are wearable and people can come along, pick up something and wear it out that night.”

Lots that are expected to fetch the most include north eastern Victorian quilts, which are expected to fetch between £600 and £700, and a 19th century alphabet sampler, which has been valued at about £300 to £400.

The rural auction house is also holding an exhibition at the end of October featuring costumes from 1750 to the modern day.
