Track to success

Have your say

THEY may have to wait a few years, but there is rare cheer for the region’s construction firms in the Government’s vow to do its best to ensure that Yorkshire businesses benefit from the contracts for building the North-South high-speed rail track.

There will, of course, be no favours and nor should there be. Indeed, with European competition regulations restricting Ministers’ room for manoeuvre, firms should be aware that they will face a stiff contest even if the Government succeeds in changing the tendering rules to ensure that British firms get a fairer chance of success.

With plenty of time in which to plan, however, there is no excuse for Yorkshire firms not coming up with convincing business plans that should enable them to share in the manifold benefits that the HS2 link will bring to the region.
