Tractor bride has welly good wedding

But that was where the similarity ended for Benj Cockburn. For the groom, a farmer, and his party opted to drive to his nutpials in decorated tractors.

The convoy of green tractors set out for Ripley Church, yesterday afternoon ahead of his wedding to his bride Katie White.

Mother of the groom Tracey Cockburn, speaking before the wedding, said: “There are five tractors coming in convoy and they’re are going to drive down the main street.

“He just thought it was a nice idea to come on a tractor.”

She said her son, of Cockburn Farms, Warsill, Ripley, had told his bride-to-be of his unusual choice of transport and she was happy with the idea.

The tractors arrived in a neat convoy, carrying a smartly-dressed groom and his party who lined-up outside the Boars Head Hotel, with the bride then making her way from the hotel to the church.

After the service Just Married banners were placed on the front of Mr Cockburn’s unorthodox transport and he swept his bride off her feet to reveal she was wearing some very suitable footwear – brightly-coloured wellington boots.

Following the service Miss White, 25, from Grantham, who is studying animal science at Craven College, and Mr Cockburn and their guests headed off for their reception at Ripley Castle.

Mrs Cockburn said those taking part in the convoy had helped her to get the tractors taking part sparkling clean and suitably attired so they were ready for their unusual wedding role.

She said it was a welcome distraction as this year, with its wet weather had been difficult for farmers struggling to grow crops in such difficult conditions.

“It’s nice to have a bit of fun,” she added.
