Tractor run to celebrate landmark

The Beadlam Charity Tractor Run, which will this year be held on Sunday, May 6, raises money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and organisers have seen the event go from strength to strength.

The first run in 2002 had 35 tractors and raised £1,700. Last year’s event attracted 200 tractors and raised £7,970 – with the running total collected for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance standing at £53,000.

The Beadlam Charity Tractor Run was established by Bernard Simpson, a retired farmer who will be 83 in June. He will be leading the tractor run again in May when it travels around Ryedale, covering about 50 miles and passing through 20 villages. The event will start and finish at the Beadlam Grange Farm Shop, on the A170 between Beadlam and Helmsley.

One of the organisers, Sally Simpson, said: “The success of the event over the last nine years has surpassed all our expectations, and we hope to make the 10th extra special. The support we receive from the tractor enthusiasts and the general public year after year is overwhelming.”
