Traders raise cash to pay for lovely Lindley - the guide dog

A PUPPY is all set to become a guide dog of the future after kind-hearted traders raised more than £5,000 to sponsor him.

Lindley, the ‘Labradoodle’ - a cross between a labrador and a poodle - is being sponsored by the Love Lindley Traders community group from Lidget Street, Lindley, Huddersfield.

Their last two Christmas charity nights in 2009 and 2010 raised thousands of pounds and inevitably they chose the name Lindley for him.

Lucia Haycock, secretary of the Lindley community group, said: “Our group is immensely proud to be sponsoring Lindley through his training.

“He will always have a special place in our hearts and when it came to a name we felt there was only once choice - Lindley.”

Debbie Wheeler from Guide Dogs for the Blind brought the pup to meet the traders during a break in his training.

She said: “I know the traders will enjoy following their puppy’s progress through an incredible journey from being a bundle of fluff to him becoming a responsible and much-loved guide dog.

“The support of organisations like the Lindley traders is invaluable as we receive no Government funding.”

The traders organise a late-night every year for charity in the run-up to Christmas. This year it was held on December 6.
