Traffic arrangements improved ahead of biggest one-day show

ORGANISERS of the Driffield Show will today welcome visitors and exhibitors from across the country to England's largest one-day agricultural show.

Although not expecting to beat last year's record crowd of 31,000 – when the event co-incided with the start of the school holidays – the organisers say as many as 25,000 visitors are still expected at the Kelleythorpe showground.

Visitors frustrated by long delays getting in and out last year should find things running more smoothly, with new traffic management systems – including wider gates – in position and 40 per cent more car parking spaces.

Show secretary Cheryl Nicholson said "We are very proud of our agricultural heritage and that's something we want very strongly to maintain, but we will also have a mixture of the new and the old.

"We've got people from all over the country to exhibit and there's a guy from the North of Scotland who has brought his heavy horses down.

"We are proud that Driffield Show has something for everybody and people will find something interesting to them, whatever their age," she continued.

The show will have several new attractions – including ferret classes in the Fur and Feather marquee.
