Traffic chaos as after stolen car crashes into Leeds garden

A STOLEN car overturned and landed in a garden this morning after crashing into another car on a busy road in Leeds, causing rush hour traffic chaos.

The Ford Fiesta crashed into a VW Polo on the Lower Wortley ring road at the junction with Branch Road just before 5.15am.

The Fiesta, which police say was stolen, overturned and came to rest on its roof in a nearby garden. A 22-year-old man from the Fiesta was taken to Leeds General Infirmary with serious injuries.

The road was closed in both directions during the morning rush hour, with drivers left to find alternative routes. Traffic to the White Rose Centre was affected and one motorist contacted the Yorkshire Post to complain about the absence of diversions.

A police spokesman said: "Witnesses reported seeing a second man running from the Fiesta. Police enquiries are ongoing."

The driver of the Polo suffered minor injuries.

Police have appealed for witnesses, who are asked to contact 0845 6060 606.
