Traffic chaos for motorists after serious multi-car crash closes the M1 near Sheffield

The M1 southbound was closed to all traffic at around 4.30pm at J31 Sheffield after a serious crash involving a number of cars near J32 Thurscroft.

Traffic has been diverted off the M1 South on to the M18. The M1 North has been closed to all traffic at J31.

Police, ambulance and the air ambulance has been deployed to the crash.

The M18 South entry slip road to the M1 has also been closed with police advising motorists to find alternative routes.

Two lanes of the M1 northbound have been reopened since the crash.
