Traffic chaos as school bus and two cars crash near Leeds

A SCHOOL bus and two cars collided in Leeds today, causing traffic chaos on one of the city's busiest commuter routes.

The bus, which was on its way to pick up its passengers, was being driven near Leathley, on the A658 North Yorkshire side of the county boundary with West Yorkshire.

The single decker, a Citroen Xsara and a Vauxhall Corsa were involved in the accident at 6.43am.

The driver of the bus was injured but no details were available. Two other people suffered minor injuries.

Police from North and West Yorkshire brought in traffic diversions as long tailbacks built up either side of the accident scene, which was outside Hunter's Inn.

The road was closed in both directions and at peak traffic period at 8.30am had still not re-opened.

The crash caused a fuel spill from one of the vehicles and firefighters from North Yorkshire Fire Service were called out.

Police made an appeal to drivers to find other routes around the blockage.
