Tragedy of groom killed on honeymoon

TRIBUTES have been paid to a newly-wed from Wakefield who was killed on honeymoon in Mexico

Ray Cottam had only been married a week when he was killed in what was believed to have been a hit and run on Saturday, June 29.

Mr Cottam, of New Road, Middlestown, was enjoying the holiday of a lifetime in Cancun with his new wife Karen, who has since returned home, where she is being comforted by family.

The pair had tied the knot the previous Saturday at Rogerthorpe Manor Hotel, in Badsworth.

Mr Cottam worked for Fox’s Biscuits in Batley, but had previously run Park Square Fisheries, in Ossett.

Janet Barnes, 56, of Lynda Grove, Ossett, worked with him at the fish and chip shop and attended his evening wedding reception.

She said: “He was a diamond – a one in a million. He would do anything for anyone.”
