Tragedy of mother killed by taxi

THE family of a woman who was hit by a taxi and killed last weekend have spoken for the first time since the accident.

Mother-of-two Sarah Watkinson, 25, from Kendray, Barnsley, died from her injuries after she was hit by a car on Ludwell Hill, High Melton, Doncaster in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Yesterday her father Derek Watkinson said: "Sarah was a brilliant mum who thought the world of her kids. She always put them first, and it's a tragedy to think of them and others she has left behind.

"On behalf of the family I'd like to thank everyone for their kind words and messages of support. These have been a great comfort to the family at this difficult time."

The family are now making arrangements for the care of Miss Watkinson's children, a seven-year-old girl and a four-year-old boy.

Police said they had been "pleased" with the response from the public after the accident, but urged anyone who thinks they may have information which could assist police to contact the South Yorkshire Police witness line on 0114 220 2970.

A 25-year-old man who was walking at the side of the road with Miss Watkinson has been bailed by police pending further inquiries.
