Tragic mother backs safety moves at scene of girl's death

The mother of a Leeds schoolgirl knocked down and killed has welcomed steps to improve safety where she died.

Schoolgirl, Hannah Hudson, 12, was killed as she walked to school from her house in Britannia Road, in Morley, Leeds.

Following the accident in 2009 campaigners have pushed for improvements at what they claim is an accident blackspot.

Now campaigners have received the news that improvements are to be introduced to improve safety.

Last night Hannah's mum Toni Hudson said: "There are quite a few people who have been injured or killed on this road.

"I wouldn't want anyone else to go through what I have been through."

Mrs Hudson added: "It feels like what happened to Hannah wasn't in vain."

New measures for the route include putting in an extra pedestrian crossing, improved road markings and signs along Britannia Road and turning the Bradford-bound carriageway from Tingley Bar Fisheries into a single lane.

It is anticipated that work will get under way on the project in the next couple of months.

Once work gets under way it should be completed in around 12 weeks.

The scheme will be reviewed and extra improvements could be added if necessary.
