Trains delayed for ‘safety checks’

TRAVELLERS on the East Coast main line through Yorkshire were facing delays of up to an hour this morning as engineers carried out safety checks in the north of the county.

Train operator East Coast said its services, along with those run by CrossCountry, First TransPennine Express, and Grand Central were being delayed because of the work between Northallerton and Thirsk.

The firm said: “There are delays of up to 60 minutes between Northallerton and York. There is no current estimate for when a normal service will resume.

“Alternative transport is being arranged to run between Darlington and York, but there is no estimate for when this will be available.
