Trains disrupted as fire burns near railway line at Wakefield Westgate station

Firefighters are tackling a blaze that has spread to railway tracks by Wakefield Westgate station.

Engines from Ossett and Rothwell were called to the scene at 4pm today (Thursday) and the fire is ongoing.

Northern rail said trains were running at reduced speeds due to the fire near the line.

The fire service was also called to a blaze at Thornes Moor Road, which a spokeswoman said was 1,000 metre by 300 metres large.

Firefighters from Wakefield and Dewsbury went to the second fire at 3.15pm today.
