Tram horror investigated as victim recovers

An animal trainer who suffered two broken legs is recovering at Leeds General Infirmary after becoming trapped under a three-tonne horse-drawn tram.

The 46-year-old was dragged under the tram by her legs on Monday afternoon when a horse she was guiding at Middleton Railway, in Leeds, bolted.

The trainer, from Tong-based Hanson Carriage Hire, was guiding horses as they pulled Leeds Horse Car 107, which was being relaunched after a £45,000 restoration project carried out by Leeds Transport Historical Society.

The Office of Rail Regulation is investigating the incident with the Rail Accident Investigation Branch.
