Body in tent man missing since 2008

THE remains of a body recovered from a tent in Scotland are that of a man from Yorkshire who went missing more than four years ago, forensic tests have revealed.

The DNA tests have established that the remains discovered last month in a remote area of the Scottish Highlands between Crianlarich and Tyndrum are those of Victor Bell, of York, who was last seen by his family on March 14, 2008, when he told them he was going on a camping trip.

Mr Bell, who was 39 when he disappeared, was a regular camper and would often go off for long periods on his own.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said his family had reported him missing several weeks after they last saw him.

“North Yorkshire Police launched a missing person investigation at the time and focused on the Scottish countryside and wilderness, but sadly, no sightings of Victor were reported. Police are not treating his death as suspicious and a report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
