Car crash on a South Yorkshire parkway lands a driver in hospital with serious injuries

A motorist suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital following a car crash on the Dearne Valley Parkway in Barnsley.

At around 6.50pm on Saturday, a black VW Golf was travelling along the parkway in the direction towards Birdwell when, close to the roundabout with Roebuck Hill near Jump, there was a collision with a white Ford Ranger.

The Golf overturned and collided with a lamppost before landing on a grass verge at the side of carriageway.

The 59-year-old male driver of the Golf suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital. The 24-year-old driver and 22-year-old passenger, both men, in the Ranger also sustained some injuries.

South Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward by calling 101, quoting incident number 1037 of 4 March 2017.
