Elderly man seriously injured as mobility scooter crashes with car in Bradford

AN ELDERLY man was seriously injured after a crash involving a mobility scooter in Bradford today.

A 70-year-old man was crossing Leeds Road on the mobility scooter at around 12.40pm when the incident took place.

He suffered serious injuries in the crash, which involved a black Seat car.

West Yorkshire Police said they were not able to confirm reports that the man had died after the crash.

But in a previous statement they said the occupants of the car involved were believed to have left the scene.

Police are now appealing for information after the incident, which took place close to the junction of Leeds Road and Thornbury Avenue yesterday afternoon.

A section of Leeds Road was closed off between Garibaldi Street and the junction with Killinghall Road.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area while the collision was investigated.

A police cordon was also put in place shortly after the crash, which affected traffic travelling from Bradford in the direction of Leeds.

Bus services were also diverted whilst emergency services attended the scene.

Around five ambulances and eight police vehicles attended the incident.

Enquiries are continuing into the collision and West Yorkshire Police officers are keen to speak to anyone who has information about the crash on Friday, February 20.
