Girl, 10, seriously hurt as she crosses road

A GIRL aged 10 was fighting for life in hospital today after she was hit by a car as she tried to cross road in Rotherham.

The youngster is being treated for a fractured skull and broken arm and leg, which medics at Sheffield Children’s Hospital have described as life threatening injuries.

South Yorkshire Police said the girl and another child were trying to cross Nursery Road, Dinnington, at the time of the collision.

They had stepped into the road, back onto the pavement and then the 10-year-old, said to be local, stepped back into the road again into the path of an oncoming Volvo S60 travelling towards North Anston.

The collision, around 20 metres away from the junction with Park Avenue, was reported to emergency services at 1pm yesterday.
