The crash happened at about 12.15pm on Sunday, although police only released details today.

Traffic Constable Neil Cholmondeley, from North Yorkshire Police, confirmed that the only description that officers have of the car is that it was light coloured.

He said: “We have a situation where a car has hit a pedestrian and the driver has driven off without any concern for the welfare of the victim. Thankfully he was not seriously injured but the outcome could have been far more serious.

“I am appealing to anyone who was in the Sowerby Crescent area on Sunday and either saw what happened or can assist with identifying the driver, gets in touch.”

Anyone with information is being urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on the non-emergency number of 101.
