Huddersfield toddler is killed by reversing Transit van

THE family of a 21-month-old girl who died after she was hit by a van have paid tribute to their “perfect little angel”.

Poppy Boothroyd is believed to have been run over by the reversing Ford Transit van on St James Way, in Huddersfield, on Wednesday.

She was taken to hospital but later died from her injuries.

Her family released a statement which said: “Poppy was just Poppy. She was our amazing little girl, our perfect little angel.

“We are all heartbroken that she has been taken from us in such tragic circumstances.

“She is a little star and we will never forget her.”

A West Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said it was a tragic accident.

She added: “Police were called to St James Way, in Huddersfield, at 2.24pm on 9 January following a report of a collision between a Ford Transit van and a young girl.

Emergency services attended and the 21-month-old was taken to hospital, where she sadly died of her injuries.

“Inquiries are ongoing into the incident.”
