Fire crews attended the scene on Station Road in Ecclesfield just before 10pm last night.

Residents have been warned to stay indoors and keep their doors and windows closed as thick, black smoke emanated from the fire, which spread to a nearby paint sprayers’ unit.

A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Fire Control said they were looking into the possibility that the buildings contain asbestos.

Eight fire engines attended the scene but the spokeswoman said that had been decreased to five by around 3am.
