Leeds ring road at standstill after Land Rover overturns

THE ring road in north Leeds was brought to a standstill after a car lost control and ended up overturned and wedged between two trees today.

A grey Land Rover Defender had come off the road and became stuck near the junction with Scotland Mill Lane in Meanwood shortly before 9am.

No other vehicles were involved.

Drivers got out of their cars on the stretch of the dual carriageway between King Lane in Moortown and Otley Road in Weetwood after becoming tired of waiting.

There were reports of some turning around and driving the wrong way to get out of the queues.

The woman driver, who was conscious, was taken to hospital by ambulance after suffering a suspected broken arm. She was not believed to have suffered any more serious injuries.

The road remained closed while an operation was launched to recover her car.
