Leeds teenager killed in car crash is named UPDATED

A LEEDS teenager who died in a car crash at the weekend has been named by police.

Sophie Bywater, 19, from Collingham, died after the Volkswagon Polo she was driving came off Skinner Lane and landed in a stream at around 2.30am on Saturday, May 31.

She was rescued from the car but was later pronounced dead at Pinderfields Hospital.

Dozens of tributes, flowers, teddy bears, photographs, cards and balloons have been placed next to the scene.

Speaking previously, detective sergeant Carole Greaves, of the Major Collision Enquiry Team, said: “From initial enquiries there is nothing to indicate that any other vehicle was involved.”

She added: “A young woman has lost her life and we would urge anyone who has any information which could aid our enquiries to contact the Major Collision Enquiry Team on 101.”
