Police and Highways pull lorry from M62 barrier in crash which closed lanes

A lorry which slammed into the M62 barrier near Leeds has caused traffic tailbacks

The incident on the M62 westbound, just before Junction 31 of the M62 at Normanton and Castleford, has brought police and Highways England to the scene.

Drivers are being warned that the crash could be causing traffic issues on the motorway.

The incident is likely to cause more disruption as Highways and police look to close the other two lanes.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: "@WYP_RPU Due to the vehicle needing to be lifted of the safety barrier we may need to close more lanes or the whole carriageway to ensure we can do this safely for our staff and all the other road users.

#M62 westbound just prior to the exit at J31 #Normanton & #Castleford #TrafficOfficers & @WYP_RPU are dealing with a collision.

"The vehicle is currently on the nearside safety barrier. A lane 1 closure is in place for safety. Recovery for the vehicle has been arranged."

The lorry is currently being removed from the safety barrier, Highways said.

A spokesman added: "We have managed to get the LGV straightened up and from the safety barrier. As such we have now opened lane 2. The lane 1 closure remains in place for the safety of our crews and the recovery operatives.
